Safety Alerts

~ There are so many re calls going on right now for toys, mostly affected with lead paint. I checked out the list and found a few that my baby had been chewing on and got rid of them. Check out Consumer Product Safety for the list of toys, and they advise always allowing your doctor to test the child for lead.

~Also in the news is the recall of Infant Cough and Cold Medicines which at least is coming out before cold season is underway!

~Anything else anyone has heard about lately??

The medicine recall isn't because there's anything wrong with the medicine itself; rather the dosage information on the bottles may be cause some parents to accidentally overdose their children. The recent article I read stated that pediatricians are taught that these medications are not good and do not work on children younger than two and should not be administered. Their "quandry" was getting parents to opt for the safer method of bulb syringes, saline drops, etc. While that option is a great one for colds, etc. it doesn't help for fever or pain. What are parents supossed to give for teething, ear pain from infections, fever caused by illnesses, etc? Fever still needs to be controlled and tepid baths, etc. aren't always effective and of course do nothing for pain.

Beth~ I noticed that as well, that it was mostly dosage. The recall is for the decongestants, not the infants tylenol that is used for fever and pain. So I think that is still okay to use.

it kinda makes you wonder if we, as kids ate alot of lead. I know I used to smash the thermometers and play with the stuff inside.

I should look into the affects of that stuff and see if i have any.

Randy, yeah, I don't know what mercury from inside thermometers can do to you, but obviously you are okay!
I am sure I was exposed to lead, I played with an old painted rusty tricycle, and all sorts of old toys as a kid.
